According to STT, The Finnish News Agency, Nordic Nano Group Oy is opening a factory in Imatra to produce environmentally friendly battery cells and solar panel coatings.

We welcome Nordic Nano to Imatra. The city has a long history in the industrialisation and electrification of Finland, and Nordic Nano continues this fine tradition. Skilled labour and significant educational opportunities in the region will continue to be Imatra’s strengths as companies consider their locations.”

says Matias Hilden, Mayor of Imatra.

Nordic Nano Group Oy (NNG) is opening a factory in Imatra that will produce completely non-toxic and technically superior solid-electrode battery cells and solar energy harvesting coatings. The company is challenging global green technology solutions, often imported from outside the EU, with sustainable, environmentally friendly and competitively priced innovations.

NNG’s advanced nano-printing technology has been taken to the next level with the help of Finnish coating and materials research. The technology is used, among other things, to manufacture battery cells and energy-harvesting and reactive coatings. These coatings can be installed on the roofs, walls and windows of buildings, and their ability to utilise diffuse light offers a significant efficiency advantage compared to existing solutions on the market. In addition, NNG’s products are environmentally friendly and responsibly produced, unlike many alternatives coming from outside the EU, which are often heavily subsidised.

The company started operations in Finland in 2024, production will begin in spring 2025 and mass production in winter 2026. Development projects with customers and research partners are already underway, and the initial production of the factory has been completely pre-sold.

“Our technology combines environmental friendliness, technical superiority and competitive pricing in a way that is not achieved in subsidised technologies imported from outside the EU,” says CEO Esa Parjanen. “EU regulatory changes, the growing importance of security of supply and self-sufficiency have given us a significant head start in the market. Our technology offers a sustainable solution that does not harm the environment – and is also a competitive alternative.”

Nordic Nano Group continues to prepare for the ramp-up of production and recruitment, and the company is expected to employ hundreds of people in the coming years. Manufacturing will begin in the property located in Teppanala, Imatra, for which the city approved a zoning amendment in August.

“We welcome the Nordic Nano Group to Imatra. The city has a long history in Finland’s industrialisation and electrification, and Nordic Nano Group continues this tradition nicely. Skilled labour and significant educational opportunities in the region will continue to be Imatra’s strengths when companies consider locating here,” says Matias Hilden, Mayor of Imatra.
